Living Room Ceiling Painting Tips To Learn In Milford, CT

When you are thinking about how you can update the look of a room, the ceiling is not often one place that you might think to look as a place of an improvement and yet it can be one of the most critical places that needs it.

Though it takes up a good amount of surface space in any given room, you may not be aware that there are some things that you can do to update the look of your living room ceiling through painting and make it look better.

With that being the case, let's have a look at some living room ceiling painting tips to learn when you want a nicely painted ceiling.

1. Cover Your Floor

As much as you want to not think about it this way, the act of painting your ceiling is one in which you are painting a flat surface that hangs above you and gravity is indeed going to do its thing and guide paint downward towards the floor.

This means that any floor surface that is not covered in some meaningful manner is going to get paint on it and you don't want that to happen, typically.

Make sure that you cover your floor with a tarp or a floor covering like a drop cloth that won't let paint get through it so that you don't end up painting your floor at the same time that you paint your ceiling.

2. Remove Furniture

Though it can be a bit of a hassle to remove any furniture from any room, let alone one in which you are painting the ceiling, it's a good idea to do so not only for safety reasons but to avoid getting paint on the furniture.

The safety reason comes into effect because you have to think that while you are going to be focusing on painting your ceiling, you are going to perhaps not even notice furniture that could be in the way and act as a tripping hazard.

The other important aspect is that people typically tend to paint their furniture with some kind of intention, not just painting it by accident when paint happens to fall down from the ceiling as it is getting painted.

If you have some furniture that just needs to remain in the room, it's a good idea to cover it with a tarp or a drop cloth so that you can better avoid getting paint on it.

3. Primer Before Paint

Insofar as it might seem a bit unnecessary, it's quite often a really good idea to start off a painting project not by applying a coat of paint but a coat of primer before that first coat of paint.

Primer does a number of things for your living room ceiling painting project but first and foremost that you may be interested in as far as enhancing your project is that it will do a better job of blocking stains from being seen after you start to apply paint, even more so than an extra coat of paint might do.

It's also going to be good for getting the surface that you are painting to be more smooth, which is a good thing for helping to get the paint on more easily.

Perhaps most importantly, especially if you are thinking about how you can get your painting project to stay on some kind of a budget, is the fact that when you apply a coat of primer it makes the surface a bit more adhesive and gets the paint that you subsequently apply to stay on longer -- keeping it from peeling and sustaining the life of the painting project.
